Background

In the August / September 2022 People’s Panel residents were asked:

  • What is most important in terms of making somewhere a good place to live?
  • What is most in need of improvement in your local area?

  • An infographic summary of the citywide results can be found here: August 2022 Infographic

A more detailed citywide analysis report can be found here: August 2022 Report

However, the Insight Team has also analysed the results of these questions by the 13 segments in the Hull City Council Customer Segmentation Model.

You can find more information on this model here: HCC Customer Segmentation Model

    Understanding the Tables Below

The table below shows, for each of the 13 segments:

  • The top 5 most important things in making somewhere a good place to live
  • The top 5 things most in need of improvement in their local area

  • You’ll notice that the top 5 answers to each question tend to be similar regardless of the segment – and focus on the large universal issues that you would expect e.g., access to health services, clean streets, levels of crime / ASB etc.

Therefore, the tables also show those responses / issues that were selected by a segment significantly more than average (e.g., significantly more so than other segments) – even where they are not the top responses.

This provides additional context as to what is uniquely important / in need of improvement to that segment – beyond the usual big hitters.

The following have been highlighted in bold in the table:

  • Anything that appears under both the top 5 and the associated ‘more than average’ column – these should be considered the must get rights for that segment
  • Anything that appears under both ‘more than average’ columns – these should be considered as specific issues unique to that segment

  • Note – there aren’t always significantly different results.
